Welcome to The Croquet Academy

High Bisque Competition 2026

The Annual High Bisque Tournament run by the Croquet Academy was held at Southwick on 6th August.

Sunny day with refreshing breeze! 12 players in the main draw, 4 players opting for a resume of Short Croquet.

The main draw was tightly contested with Tony Marjoram, Sue Kilby, Rosemary Faulkner and Chris Davidson all doing well. The final round saw Tony defeat Sue, and Rosemary beat Chris. So 3 wins for 3 players!! Rosemary had a draw in one game so no defeats so the manager declared her the winner of the High Bisque Salver!!

Well done everyone who took part! It was good to see players from different clubs - Rottingdean, Compton, Chichester, Surbiton, Reigate.

My grateful thanks as ever to our team of coaches : John Daniels, Simon Fenn-Tye, Clive Hayton, Alan Cottle and Jonathan Isaacs. Their perceptive and practical comments were of great value to the players, and to me.

I also want to thank Jonathan for preparing and running the session and mini competition for those opting for Short Croquet.

Do carry on and look out on the website for follow up course on AC improvement and development. Also some suggestion of coached games days.

Thanks of course to Ben for wonderful lawns and for setting up short courts. All done cheerfully!!

Congratulations to Rosemary on a notable win, and to runners up Tony and Sue. Handicap changes for Mary G to 20, and Bob G to 22. Other may come when cards are checked!!

Enjoy your croquet!

Frances (Manager, coach, referee)

And many thanks to Frances for organising and managing this event this year, as she has done every year since at least 2012. Sadly, this is her final year as she has decided it is time for someone else to take over the reins.
